The bag
Helped start the tallow chip movement. We've been frying tortilla chips in grass-fed beef tallow since 2021, one of the first brands to do it.
Three bags, three ingredients: organic nixtamalized corn, grass-fed beef tallow and Celtic sea salt. That's the whole list. No seed oils, no artificial additives.
A big crunch, real tortilla-chip flavor from the nixtamal corn (no beefy taste), and just enough salt. Open one with salsa or guac, or eat them straight from the bag. The other two will keep for later.
Save $0.98 compared with buying 3 single bags: $10.66 a bag instead of $10.99. Each bag is 7 oz, not the 5 oz of the trending bags on the shelf.
- Ingredients: organic nixtamalized corn, grass-fed beef tallow, Celtic sea salt
- No seed oils. Gluten-free.
- 3 bags x 7.05 oz (21.15 oz total)
Ingredients
Organic nixtamal corn, grass-fed beef tallow, Celtic sea salt.
That's the whole list. Non-GMO, seed oil free, zero preservatives, gluten-free.
What is beef tallow?
- What it is
- Pure beef fat, slowly melted down and strained into a clean cooking fat. It stays stable at high heat, which is why it fries chips so crisp.
- Where it comes from
- Tallow is rendered from suet, the firm fat around a cow's kidneys. Ours comes from grass-fed cattle. It's what abuelas fried in before seed oils took over.
- What's in it
- Per 100 g, beef tallow is about 50 g saturated fat, 42 g monounsaturated and just 4 g polyunsaturated. It also has small amounts of vitamin E (2.7 mg) and vitamin D (0.7 µg), but a serving of chips only carries a trace, so we don't sell our chips as a vitamin source.
- Why not seed oils?
- Seed oils are loaded with polyunsaturated fats (PUFAs): about 28 g per 100 g in canola, 58 g in soybean and 66 g in sunflower oil, compared with 4 g in tallow.
- Does it taste like beef?
- Nope. Tallow just fries the chips crisp. The flavor comes from real nixtamal corn, so they taste like a real tortilla chip, with nothing else on it.
Figures per 100 g from USDA FoodData Central: beef tallow (#171400), canola (#172336), soybean (#171411) and sunflower oil, linoleic (#171025). USDA figures are for beef tallow in general, not grass-fed specifically.
